Language.Exchange

I am an older American, probably the age of most of the native-Arabic-speakers' (those listed here) grandmothers. But please don't be put off by that. I retain my talent in languages. I'm a pretty quick learner and know four Indo-European languages besides English. I have been studying Modern Standard Arabic in New York City for about a year and a half with a Syrian teacher. I find I don't study the way I should because I learn languages by speaking with native speakers and this is mainly a reading and writing course with some recorded conversations on CD. The book is very good: Mastering Arabic by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar. -- I was a journalist for most of my life. I am still struggling with verbs and I find I don't study much because I have no one to talk to. I speak - besides English - Italian (fluently), Spanish (semi-fluently), French (pretty fluently), German (some). If I were in the Middle East living in a city or village I would learn Arabic quickly. But as it is I have no one to talk to and this is why I'm interested in this program.
