I am studying Italian so that I can pass the test for citizenship. My husband has applied, and eventually I also hope to gain citizenship. Also, I have family in the province of Abruzzo, where my grandfather was from. Many of them do not speak English, so I want to be able to speak with them. We visit Italy often, and plan to spend more time there. We are both in our 60s and retired. I am a historian and my husband is an engineer.
I enjoy travel, and recently returned from spending three months in Italy. I also am an avid reader and gardener, love museums, art history, and animals, especially our cats.
I am a lower, intermediate Italian speaker. I am just learning the Passato Prossimo tense. It is not easy for me learning Italian. I take a class one hour a week. My teacher says I need to practice speaking more, so I hope to do that in this forum. I am happy to help someone with their English skills in exchange for helping me with my Italian.

I’ve been learning German on and off for about 25 years and want to finally reach full fluency. While my pronunciation is strong, I still struggle with conversational flow, especially with gendered nouns and the conjugation system. I’m interested in everyday life, history, philosophy, video games, and modern German music, and would love to practice around those topics. My ideal language partner is patient, helpful, kind, and has a good sense of humor.

I have a lot of experience doing medical interpreting, so know a lot of technical terms related to healthcare, but I have holes in my general language ability. Hello!
After a long career as a natural resource economist, I'm easing into a new career as a part-time English teacher while also trying to improve my own second-language skills. Actually, I was already an English teacher for two years long ago (1988-90) and now I'm going back where I started. I have a BA in English Lit and two graduate degrees in natural resource economics, so I'm happy to discuss your academic ambitions if you have any. Over the years, I've studied Latin, German, Bahasa Indonesia, and Spanish, but I still have a lot to learn about all of these. I'm especially interested in helping university students and researchers get more comfortable with the English they need to understand international research publications and to participate in international conferences.
